UK founder relocation & residency support

UAE Investor Visa for UK Citizens and Entrepreneurs

Plan your UAE company and residency route together. First Elite Global helps UK citizens and business owners understand the available investor, partner, Green and qualifying Golden Residency routes, then coordinate the company, document and application stages that apply to their circumstances.

Eligibility, documentation, fees and processing requirements vary by residence category, company, emirate and applicant circumstances. Final decisions remain with the relevant UAE authorities.

The important distinction

Start with the right route

There is no separate UAE investor visa issued only to British citizens.

Your UK nationality does not itself determine the residence category. The appropriate route depends on why you are moving to the UAE, whether you own or invest in a UAE business, your shareholding or investment evidence, the emirate involved and whether you qualify for a longer-term residence category.

For an entrepreneur establishing or participating in a UAE company, relevant options can include a business-owner or partner residence route, Green Residency for eligible investors and business partners, or Golden Residency where the applicable investor or entrepreneur criteria are met.

Do not choose the visa before defining the business.

If your residency is connected to a new UAE company, the licence, jurisdiction, ownership structure, visa capacity and intended operations should be considered together before you commit to a setup package.

Residency options

Which UAE residence route might fit a UK entrepreneur?

The descriptions below are starting points rather than automatic eligibility decisions. The authority's current category requirements control the application.

01

Business owner or partner residence

A founder, shareholder or partner in a UAE company may have a residence route connected to the company and its immigration records. The exact requirements and duration depend on the relevant company, jurisdiction and authority.

02

Green Residency

Green Residency is a five-year renewable route that includes investors and business partners. ICP states that applicants in this category must provide proof of investment or contribution to a UAE business venture and hold the necessary licences and approvals.

03

Golden Residency

Longer-term Golden Residency categories exist for qualifying investors and entrepreneurs. Eligibility depends on the category and supporting evidence, so the Golden route should be assessed separately rather than treated as the default investor visa.

Current official category information: ICP Green Residency and ICP Golden Residency.

Planning your move from the UK

Define the business, residence and relocation plan together.

A UK entrepreneur moving to Dubai or another part of the UAE normally has several connected decisions to make. The company structure may affect the residency route, while residency can influence practical matters such as Emirates ID, family sponsorship and banking preparation.

  • Business activity: define what the UAE company will actually sell, provide, manage or trade.
  • Mainland or free zone: compare jurisdictions against customers, operations, premises, ownership and visa needs.
  • Ownership: confirm who will own and manage the UAE entity and whether there are corporate shareholders.
  • Residency: identify whether the company-linked route, Green Residency or another category should be assessed.
  • Dependants: consider family residence requirements as part of the overall plan rather than after the main application.
  • UK position: obtain appropriate tax advice if you are changing where you live, work or manage your business.

Application roadmap

From UK-based founder to UAE resident

The sequence varies by setup and residence category, but a business-linked relocation normally needs the commercial and immigration workstreams to be coordinated.

Define the commercial plan

Confirm the activity, owners, intended customers, UAE operating model, required visas and whether premises or additional approvals are likely to be needed.

Choose the company route

Compare suitable mainland and free-zone options against the actual business rather than selecting a jurisdiction only because of an advertised licence price.

Complete the relevant company setup

Prepare the incorporation records, licence application and authority submissions needed for the selected structure where a UAE company is part of the residency plan.

Confirm the residence category

Review the company's ownership and immigration records alongside the applicant's circumstances to determine which available residence route should be pursued.

Complete immigration formalities

Depending on the route and current UAE status, this can involve application submission, entry or status procedures, medical fitness, biometrics and Emirates ID stages.

Move into post-residency requirements

Once the relevant residence steps are complete, attention can move to family applications, PRO administration, corporate banking preparation and other operational requirements.

Document preparation

What documents should a UK entrepreneur prepare?

There is no reliable universal document list for every investor or entrepreneur residence category. Build the checklist around the selected company and visa route.

Passport and identity records

A valid passport, photographs and any additional identity information requested for the selected application.

UAE company documents

Licence, incorporation and company records relevant to the business through which the application is being made.

Ownership or investment evidence

Shareholding, partnership or qualifying investment evidence where required by the residence category.

Current UAE immigration status

Existing entry, visit or residence records where these affect the application or status-change process.

Category-specific approvals

Certain Green or Golden Residency applications can require additional evidence, recommendations or authority approvals.

Family records where relevant

Marriage, birth or other relationship documents may be required when eligible dependants will also need UAE residence.

Medical and insurance requirements

Medical-fitness and health-insurance requirements should be confirmed for the applicant's residence category and emirate.

Attestation or translation

Overseas documents may need translation or attestation where required by the receiving UAE authority.

A business plan or personal bank statement is not automatically required for every investor visa.

Those records may be relevant to a particular company, banking process or residence category, but they should not be presented as universal visa requirements.

Costs & scope

How much does a UAE investor visa cost for a UK citizen?

A useful quote starts with the route. The total can differ substantially depending on whether you already own a UAE company, need a new licence, are applying through another investment category or require dependent residence and connected services.

01

Company formation or licence costs where a new UAE entity is required.

02

Government immigration and residence application charges for the selected category.

03

Medical-fitness, Emirates ID and status-related charges where applicable.

04

Insurance, document translation or attestation requirements where relevant.

05

Dependent applications if eligible family members will also obtain residence.

06

First Elite Global professional-service fees for the support scope you choose.

UK founder tax warning

A UAE residence visa is not the same thing as changing your tax residence.

Treat immigration status, personal tax residence and company taxation as separate questions. Moving to Dubai can affect all three, but one does not automatically determine the others.

United Kingdom

UK tax residence depends on HMRC rules.

Simply receiving a UAE investor or entrepreneur residence permit does not automatically make you non-UK resident. HMRC's Statutory Residence Test considers matters including days spent in the UK, work and relevant UK ties.

UK entrepreneurs planning a genuine relocation should obtain suitable tax advice based on their personal circumstances, assets, business interests and travel pattern.

United Arab Emirates

Do not describe the UAE as universally “corporate-tax free.”

UAE Corporate Tax rules can apply to businesses. Under the general regime, taxable income up to AED 375,000 is subject to a 0% rate and taxable income above AED 375,000 is generally subject to a 9% rate.

Your actual position can depend on the entity, activities, income and any applicable special rules, so tax planning should be assessed separately from the visa application.

First Elite Global support

Coordinate the setup instead of treating each step in isolation.

The strongest relocation plan connects the company, visa and post-formation requirements from the beginning.

01

Company structure and licence planning

Compare setup routes around the activity, owners, visa requirements and operating model.

02

Residency-route review

Identify which business-owner, partner, Green or qualifying Golden route should be assessed.

03

Document coordination

Build a case-specific checklist rather than relying on a generic investor-visa document list.

04

Visa and Emirates ID stages

Coordinate the relevant immigration, medical, identity and authority-facing steps within the agreed scope.

05

Post-formation support

Continue into relevant PRO, dependent-residence and corporate banking-readiness work after setup.

Frequently asked questions

UAE investor visa questions from UK entrepreneurs

Is there a special UAE investor visa for UK citizens?

No. UK nationality does not create a separate investor-visa category. The correct UAE residence route depends on factors such as company ownership, investment, the relevant emirate and whether you meet the criteria for categories such as Green or Golden Residency.

Can I start the process while I am still in the UK?

Many company-planning, document and formation stages can often begin while you are outside the UAE. However, residence completion can involve steps such as medical fitness, biometrics or other procedures that require your presence in the UAE. Your route should be mapped before booking travel.

What is UAE Green Residency for an investor or business partner?

ICP describes Green Residency as a renewable five-year residence that does not require a sponsor. Investors and business partners must provide evidence of their investment or contribution to a UAE business venture and the necessary licences and approvals.

Do I need to invest AED 2 million to obtain UAE residence?

Not for every business-owner or investor residence route. AED 2 million is associated with certain Golden Residency investor categories. Other company-linked or Green Residency routes have their own requirements, so the Golden Visa threshold should not be presented as a universal investor-visa minimum.

What documents do UK entrepreneurs usually need?

The checklist depends on the category, but it can include passport and identity records, UAE company documents, ownership or investment evidence, current immigration records and any category-specific approvals. Family, translation, attestation, medical or insurance documents may also be relevant.

Is a business plan required for every UAE investor visa?

No. A business plan may be useful or required for a particular company, banking application or residence category, but it should not be presented as a universal requirement for every UAE investor residence application.

Does obtaining UAE residency make me non-UK tax resident?

No. UK tax residence is determined under HMRC rules, including the Statutory Residence Test. A UAE residence permit is an immigration status and does not by itself determine whether you remain UK tax resident.

Can my family obtain UAE residence with me?

Eligible UAE residence categories can allow family sponsorship subject to the applicable conditions. The required relationship documents and other requirements should be confirmed for the principal applicant's specific residence route.

How much does a UAE investor visa cost for a British entrepreneur?

There is no single reliable price without identifying the route. Costs can depend on whether a new company is required, the residence category, government charges, Emirates ID and medical stages, status procedures, insurance, dependants and professional-service scope.

Can First Elite Global help with a corporate bank account after company setup?

First Elite Global can support corporate banking readiness and agreed application coordination. The bank carries out its own KYC and compliance review and independently decides whether to approve an account and on what terms.
