Most taxable juridical persons established in the UAE are required to register for Corporate Tax and obtain a Corporate Tax Registration Number from the Federal Tax Authority.
Registration is not the same as the amount of tax ultimately payable. A business can have a registration obligation even where its Corporate Tax liability is nil or particular income receives preferential treatment.
UAE-incorporated taxable juridical persons generally need to register, including companies established on the mainland.
Free zone companies remain within the Corporate Tax compliance framework. A potential 0% rate on Qualifying Income does not remove the registration or return-filing requirement.
A natural person carrying on a Business or Business Activity in the UAE is required to register when total revenue from those activities exceeds AED 1 million in a Gregorian calendar year. Salary, private investment income and real-estate investment income are excluded from that revenue calculation under the FTA rules.
A UAE branch of a domestic juridical person is generally treated as an extension of its head office rather than as a separate legal person for Corporate Tax registration and filing.
Different registration rules can apply where a non-resident has a Permanent Establishment, nexus or another relevant UAE tax connection. The timing depends on how and when that connection arises.
The correct Corporate Tax registration deadline depends on the taxpayer category, establishment date and circumstances. The three-month rule applies to important categories, but it should not be treated as a universal deadline.
| Situation | General registration position |
|---|---|
| UAE juridical person established on or after 1 March 2024 | Generally three months from incorporation, establishment or recognition under the applicable UAE legislation. |
| UAE juridical person established before 1 March 2024 | The original FTA licence-month registration schedule applied. Those historical deadlines have passed, so an unregistered company should establish its current position promptly. |
| Resident natural person exceeding the relevant business-revenue threshold | Generally 31 March of the Gregorian calendar year following the year in which the threshold was exceeded. |
| Non-resident juridical person with a UAE Permanent Establishment arising on or after 1 March 2024 | Generally six months from the date the Permanent Establishment exists. |
| Non-resident juridical person with UAE nexus arising on or after 1 March 2024 | Generally three months from establishment of the relevant nexus. |
Registration rules are fact-dependent. Confirm the applicable FTA decision for the exact entity and circumstances before relying on a deadline.
The aim is to get the taxpayer position, deadline, documents and EmaraTax application aligned before the submission reaches the FTA.
Review the entity type, establishment details and business circumstances so the process starts from the correct taxpayer category.
Identify the applicable registration timeline rather than applying a generic three-month deadline to every company.
Check company, ownership and authorised-signatory information before the application is prepared.
Organise the information needed for the relevant Taxable Person profile and Corporate Tax registration application.
Where the FTA asks for further information, help identify what the request requires and prepare the relevant response material.
Once registration is complete, understand the next Corporate Tax compliance steps and how they interact with wider UAE accounting obligations.
The Federal Tax Authority currently charges no fee for its Corporate Tax registration service.
Professional assistance is separate from the FTA's own free registration service. It can be useful when you want support establishing the right taxpayer category, checking the correct deadline, organising the documents and following the application through the review process.
Any professional-support fee is separate from the FTA service and depends on the agreed scope of assistance.
The exact file varies by taxpayer profile. The FTA currently identifies the following among the documents relevant to Corporate Tax registration.
Expired identification, inconsistent ownership information, missing authorisation evidence or company records that do not match the application can lead to avoidable follow-up.
The FTA can request additional information according to the legal structure and circumstances of the applicant.
Registration is completed through the Federal Tax Authority's EmaraTax platform.
Confirm the Taxable Person and the registration deadline that applies.

Complete the Corporate Tax registration information and upload the supporting material.
The FTA reviews the completed application and can request further information before registration is completed.
A Free Zone Person can potentially benefit from a 0% Corporate Tax rate on Qualifying Income where the conditions for the relevant treatment are satisfied. That is not the same as being outside the Corporate Tax system.
Free zone entities remain subject to Corporate Tax registration requirements.
Corporate Tax returns still need to be filed where required.
Qualifying Free Zone Person treatment depends on satisfying the applicable conditions.
Being registered for VAT does not automatically register a business for Corporate Tax. They are separate taxes with separate registration rules and compliance obligations.
A direct tax applied within the UAE Corporate Tax framework.
An indirect tax governed by separate UAE VAT legislation.
If a registration deadline has already passed, the priority is to establish the current position and complete the outstanding registration and filing steps rather than delay further.
The FTA currently operates an initiative under which qualifying persons can obtain relief from the AED 10,000 late-registration penalty. One of the central conditions is filing the first Corporate Tax Return, or applicable Annual Declaration for an exempt person, within seven months from the end of the relevant first Tax Period or Financial Year.
The initiative can apply to persons who registered late, have not yet registered or have already been charged the penalty. Where the conditions are met, the treatment of an already-paid penalty is handled through the person's EmaraTax Corporate Tax account.

Taxable Persons that fall within the Corporate Tax registration requirements must register with the Federal Tax Authority and obtain a Corporate Tax Registration Number. The applicable rules differ between juridical persons, natural persons, non-residents and certain exempt persons.
Yes. Free zone entities remain within the UAE Corporate Tax registration and return-filing framework. A Qualifying Free Zone Person may potentially benefit from a 0% rate on Qualifying Income where the relevant conditions are satisfied, but that does not remove the registration requirement.
For a taxable juridical person, the registration obligation should not be confused with the amount of taxable income or the final Corporate Tax payable. A company can still be required to register even where no Corporate Tax is ultimately payable.
A natural person carrying on a Business or Business Activity in the UAE is required to register when total revenue from those activities exceeds AED 1 million in a Gregorian calendar year. Depending on the applicant, the FTA currently lists documents such as constitutional or incorporation documents, commercial-registration evidence, a valid trade licence, owner identification where the relevant ownership threshold applies, authorised-signatory identification and evidence of signatory authority. Additional documents can be requested.
The FTA currently estimates 20 business days to complete a Corporate Tax registration application after receiving a completed application. Requests for additional information can affect the overall timeline.
The FTA Corporate Tax registration service itself is currently free of charge. Any professional fee for registration assistance is separate from the FTA service and depends on the agreed scope.
The current administrative penalty for late Corporate Tax registration is AED 10,000. The FTA also operates a late-registration penalty-waiver initiative subject to specific conditions, so an affected person should check the current eligibility requirements while completing outstanding registration and filing obligations.
No. VAT and Corporate Tax have separate registration rules. Being registered for VAT does not automatically register a business for Corporate Tax.
A UAE branch of a domestic juridical person is generally treated as an extension of its parent or head office and does not separately register or file for UAE Corporate Tax. Different rules can apply to non-resident entities and their UAE Permanent Establishments.
